Ultra-low profile packages for smart card applications

The ISO/IEC7810 international standard for the dimensions of Smartcards (53.98mm x 85.6mm x 0.76mm) has led to an increase in requirements for Power IC’s with low profile packaging, along with appearance of cards using display or finger print authentication. The majority of these cards require components with a height lower than 0.4mm, therefore, Torex has developed a range of products with a maximum height of less than 0.35mm to meet these demands. 

An ultra-low profile package with more strength

To keep up with these requirements, Torex has developed a moulded-type ultra-low profile package with more strength to withstand bending and twisting than the chip style package.  This package has been added to its line-up of DC/DC converters, charge pump ICs, lithium ion charger ICs, voltage regulators, load switch, and voltage detectors.

This newly added package is the thinnest class in the industry and is an ideal product for the power specifications of smart cards.
