One Concept - Four Solutions

Torex offer MICRO DC/DC with four different internal constructions. Each one has advantages, so you can choose the one that best fits your application. Please see the table below.

Coil The coil lies flat on the IC package.
This shortens the path of the switching
current and minimizes noise.
Lowest cost as very standard coil can be used. Special wire bonding for ultra-low profile. The IC and coil have good heat
dissipation, so large currents can be used.
New construction for mid-voltage products.

  

Low EMI / Radiated Noise

Another benefit for Torex MICRO DC/DC is much lower radiated noise compared with a normal DC/DC IC with an external coil. The data below compares the EMI performance and magnetic field strength for the different packaging options. When the IC is embedded under the Coil we see the lowest emissions (XCL202 type) , but all MICRO DC/DC generate considerably less radiated noise compared to the traditional topology (XC9236 type):

 

Simple Circuit with Small PCB Area

Only two low cost ceramic capacitors are needed externally to build your own DC/DC converter circuit.

Thermally Efficient

Compared to a LDO, our Micro DC/DCs distribute heat much more evenly as well as at a much lower temperature thereby maximising thermal efficiency.

Two Coil Suppliers

For our Micro DC/DC using the embedded coil construction we have two different manufacturing partners for the coils to ensure continuous supply. You can see the different specification for the two different Coil makers in the table above. Our original partner supplies us with a Thin Film Coil and more recently we have introduced a second supplier able to provide us with a Multilayer Coil with the same electrical characteristics.

The following series are all available with two coil options; XCL201/02, XCL205/6/7 & XCL101.
